Can you download videos from Famly or ParentZone?

Every so often a nursery shares a video. Your toddler stacking blocks, a wobbly first attempt at jumping, a singalong at the end of term. They're gold, and people understandably want to keep them. So can you actually save them off the app?

Short version: yes. Videos come down alongside the photos, at the size they were uploaded, in the same dated folders.

What you get

When you run a download, videos are saved as ordinary video files (usually .mp4) next to the photos from the same day. Nothing is re-encoded or shrunk, so a clip is the file the nursery uploaded, not a compressed copy. They sort chronologically with everything else, which means a video from a Tuesday in March sits with that week's photos rather than in a separate pile.

This wasn't always true. Videos used to be the awkward exception, and for a long time this page said so. They're handled properly now across Famly, ParentZone, Lillio and Procare.

The one thing to know about Famly

Famly splits its media in two, and it matters here.

• The main feed holds everything the nursery posts, photos and videos together. Use Download All Feed Photos and the videos come with them.
• Tagged photos are the ones your child has been tagged in. Famly only tags photos, never videos, so a tagged-only download will never include a clip.

So if you've run the tagged download and wondered where the videos went, that's why. Run the feed download as well and you'll have the lot.

If a clip still won't come down

Occasionally one won't. A post can be removed, or a link can expire before it's fetched, and the run will tell you rather than quietly skipping it. If that happens:

1. Reload the page and run the download again. Expired links are re-fetched on the next pass.
2. Open the video in the app and try right-clicking it. If you see "Save video as", that works for a one-off.
3. Ask the nursery. Staff can often send the original file directly, especially around a leaving date.

I'd rather tell you that a handful might need a second run than pretend every file always lands first time.

A sensible plan

Don't leave it to the last week. Access usually ends when your child does, and whatever you haven't saved by then isn't recoverable afterwards. Run a download now, run it again near the end to catch the last few, and the clips will be in there with the photos where they belong.
